Last summer, The Falcon's audience fell in love...hard! To avoid heartbreak, we have asked this extraordinary ensemble and their charming, gregarious leader to return!
Banda Magda delivers an intricate, tropical, eclectic sound, drawing from world chansons infused with South American grooves and a twist of jazz. On stage, Banda Magda is an intense compilation of vibraphone, guitar, bass, vocals, accordion, piano and an avalanche of percussion surrounding the charismatic Magda Giannikou, founder, leader and singer of this thoroughly hip, thoroughly modern and ultimately fantastic group.
Chef d’orcheste, singer, composer, producer, arranger, pianist and accordionist Magda Giannikou from Athens, Greece, lives in NYC, and writes songs in French with South American influence! Magda's exotic, lyrical, impeccable, foot-stomping grooves with subtlety and depth of emotion are inspired by legends such as Serge Gainsbourg, Tom Jobim, The Beatles and Pink Martini. "Magda" and the "Banda" create an aural experience at the crossroads of their diverse musical backgrounds, from France and Greece to Japan and Argentina.
Since 2010, Banda Magda has appeared regularly in NYC venues, blending French repertoire and original music sung in English, Italian, Portugese, Spanish, Greek and Japanese. Their fame, however, has gone beyond New York City. Through YouTube videos and their current EP “Banda Magda”, they have created a global fanbase.
Banda Magda enjoyed a prestigious Residence at Carnegie Hall in 2012, a performance at the 2013 Namm Convention in California and a series of music videos, “Chez Banda Magda”, shot in Magda’s colorful East Village pad.
The truly international band features Magda Giannikou (Athens, Greece): accordion, piano, lead vocal, Petros Klampanis (Zakynthos, Greece): double bass, piano, guitar, vocals, Ignacio Hernandez (Buenos Aires, Argentina): guitar and Mika Mimura (Osaka, Japan): vibes, marimba, vocals.
