Karl Berger and band bring us into the mind of the unique "fusion" Cherry created in the 70s. The late American jazz trumpeter, Don Cherry was known for his long association with saxophonist Ornette Coleman, which began in the late 1950s. In the 1960s he became a pioneer of world fusion music, incorporating a variety of ethnic styles into his playing. In the 1970s he relocated to Sweden, but continued to tour and play festivals throughout the world.

These performers have first-hand experience in performing with Don Cherry himself: Karl Berger came with Don from Paris in the 60s after several years of performances with DC in Europe. Karl recorded "Symphony for Improvisers" with Don, the legendary Blue Note release from 1966. Peter Apfelbaum worked closely with DC for many years. He and Steven Bernstein met Don at the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock and worked with him and Peter's "Hieroglyphics Ensemble" in the Bay Area.
