Larry Coryell

As one of the pioneers of jazz-rock -- perhaps the pioneer in the ears of some -- Larry Coryell deserves a special place in the history books. He brought what amounted to a nearly alien sensibility to jazz electric guitar playing in the 1960s; a hard-edged, cutting tone, and phrasing and note-bending that owed as much to blues, rock and even country as it did to earlier, smoother bop influences. Yet as a true eclectic, armed with a brilliant technique, he is comfortable in almost every style, covering almost every base from the most decibel-heavy, distortion-laden electric work to the most delicate, soothing, intricate lines on acoustic guitar. Coryell has graced the stages of other legends like Hendrix, Santana, and Clapton. He is joined tonight by Gil Parris, who, as one of the "next generation disciples of these guitar gods," is "sure to impress any fan of this genre." Parris has himself played with many well-known artists, including Dr. John, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Diane Schuur, David Mann, Billy Vera, Bobby Caldwell, Toni Braxton and Joe Cocker.

Grammy-nominated rock, blues, jazz and pop guitarist, Gil Parris toured Europe as part of a musical troupe performing Jesus Christ Superstar before becoming a recording artist. Parris released six solo albums and is known for blending blues, jazz, rock and smooth jazz. He has recorded and toured as a solo artist and as a sideman with major artists including Dr. John, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Diane Schuur, David Mann, Billy Vera, Bobby Caldwell and Toni Braxton. Gil Parris is one of the great instrumentalists of this era, a guitarist who appeals to all music lovers! His songs and improvisations are delivered in a very personal, storyteller's style that takes the audience on an emotional journey. His distinguished sound and technique breathe and converse like no one else's.
"I love his tone and fluidity on the guitar. Playing with Gil was a joy." - Paul Shaffer, Musical Director, Late Show with David Letterman
'Gil Parris represents the very best of the new guitarists and performers on the scene today. He is a great composer and has a tight band who really plays together as a unit! He's gonna be the next big star on the radio friendly horizon...it's only up up up for Gil!!' - Randy Brecker
